Primary
Introduction
International School Villa Amalienhof teaches the English National Curriculum; it has been adapted to meet the needs of the international community. At Key Stage 1 (ages 5–7) and key stage 2 (ages 7–11) students are required to study the following:
- English
- German (adapted to be in alignment with the German curriculum for Berlin and Brandenburg)
- Maths
- Science
- ICT
- History
- Geography
- Art and Design
- Music
- Design Technology
- Physical Education
- Personal, Social Citizenship and Health Education (PSCHE)
- French is introduced in Year 5
Assessments are carried out at the end of every year in both key stage 1 and 2. At Key Stage 2 a mid-year assessment also takes place; this provides an opportunity to determine at what level within the particular Key Stage children are performing in relation to the expected level. External assessments at the end of Key Stages 1 and 2 are important factors in determining a child’s readiness to move into the next year.

After the successful completion of Key Stage 2, Primary students will progress to Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 (6th form) in the Secondary School. Here they are prepared for the Cambridge University International Examinations Board exams IGCSEs (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and then A-levels, the latter being a prerequisite for university entrance.
The Primary School is located in Oakwood House, a modern purpose-built building. Facilities include a library and a computer suite. Primary pupils also have access to facilities in other buildings, which include a science laboratory, an art studio, a music room, a cafeteria, an assembly hall and outdoor learning areas. Pupils also have the opportunity to enjoy the nearby Hahneberg. Key stage 2 pupils also have access to the local swimming pool.
