Primary School

Registration for our bilingual classes for 2013/14 has begun!

The Primary School at International School Villa Amalienhof follows the National Curriculum of England and Wales which is internationally recognised. It has been adapted to meet the needs of an international community. The Primary School is divided into Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Lessons at ISVA are taught in English. However, as this is not the native language of a large number of children who attend our school, we offer English lessons according to the ability of the child until they can read, write and speak at a native English speaker level. Children can join the Primary School throughout the academic year subject to availability.

The Primary School is located in Oakwood House, a modern purpose-built building including a library. Primary pupils also have access to facilities in other buildings, which include a science laboratory, an art studio, a music room, a cafeteria, an assembly hall and outdoor learning areas.

Extracurricular Activities

We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities in the Primary School which pupils are recommended to take part in. Teachers and pupils work together during these activities. Pupils learn to accept responsibility and to work and learn in a team. Extracurricular activities take place Mondays to Wednesdays.

Homework
Homework is part of the learning process in the Primary School. It helps to consolidate and deepen the subject matter taught in class and trains  independant time management and the use of correct work techniques. Homework is related to tasks which pupils could not finish during lessons. In Key Stage 1 this is mainly reading with adults; Key Stage 2 homework includes reading, spelling, the times table, preparation for lessons as well as preparing presentations and small research projects in different subjects.
Assessment and Reports
The pupils’ progress and attainment are constantly assessed by the Class Teacher. Each lesson is assessed to assure that pupils are prepared for the next level. Additonally, tests, in line with the National Curriculum of England and Wales, are taken at the end of each academic year. Written reports are sent to parents at the end of each term.
Pupils in our bilingual classes receive two written reports a year.
Parents‘ Evenings
Parent – Teacher Conferences are held each term where parents can speak with subject teachers about their child’s progress and behavior. We hope that parents will take advantage of these opportunities. Should concerns about a child arise during the term, parents are welcome to contact their child’s Form Tutor or the school. Parent Class Meetings also take place once a term.
