Reopening of the Avenue to the "Amalienhof" Manor House by Dr. Richard Freiherr von Weizsäcker

Under the tutelage of the Berlin State Office for Historical Monuments the former German President Richard von Weizsäcker and selected guests visited the International School Villa Amalienhof on Saturday, July 19, 2008, during his annual tour of "Ländchen Bellin".

As the Berlin state conservator Dr. Klaus von Krosigk underscored in his speech, the acquisition of the school by the new proprietor paved the way for returning the property to its original dimensions by reuniting the former manor house with the estate park grounds. The restoration and rejuvenation of the estate park, through landscaping along the historic avenue leading to the manor house, was supported by the State Office for Historical Monuments of Berlin, Department Heritage Preservation Trust. In an exemplary fashion, the International School Villa Amalienhof has fulfilled the preservation order's criteria, while transforming the historic facilities into a modern equipped school compound.

After a visitation of the renovated manor house, which was established in 1836, the former President Richard von Weizsäcker and Mrs. Weizsäcker unveiled the new commemorative plaque at the entrance to the avenue.

Following their visit to International School Villa Amalienhof, the group went to a reception at Schloss Groß-Ziethen via Fort Hahneberg.
